FAQ for volunteers

Who can apply?
Anyone who is 18 years old at the time of registration and available for at least ten days between 7 April and 20 May can apply.

Depending on the role you apply for, further criteria and availability requirements may apply. For some tasks, an interview is held before the assignment.
Will all applicants be accepted?
Unfortunately, no. The Eurovision Song Contest appeals to many people. We would love to give everyone a chance, but if possible we rely on volunteers who live in or close to Basel.
Do I have to live in Basel?
No, but it is an advantage if you have local knowledge and live in the region.

However, we welcome applications from anyone, especially in certain roles where specific language skills are required.
Will I be paid?
Volunteer work is not remunerated.

In addition to new encounters and unforgettable moments, you will receive meals, a volunteer bag with clothing and access to the Volunteer Lounge.
Are travel expenses covered for volunteers?
Unfortunately, we cannot cover travel expenses from other cities or countries.

The costs for local public transport (TNW) to the locations in Basel are covered.
Can I get a visa?
No. You must make sure that you are authorised to do volunteer work in Switzerland.

Please note that we do not cover any visa costs and do not provide any documents for this purpose.
Will meals be provided?
Yes, from a minimum of 4 hours of work food will be provided. Special requirements can be reported via the comments field in the application.
Will I receive clothing for my role?
Yes, all volunteers will receive their own ESC volunteer clothing, which they can keep after the event.
Am I insured against accidents during my assignment?
Accident insurance is the responsibility of the volunteer and must be valid in Switzerland.

Am I covered by liability insurance during my assignment?
Yes, the liability insurance is covered by Host City Basel.
Will I receive training before my assignment?
Yes, all volunteers will receive general training on 2 or 3 May 2025. Please be available on one of these days. Depending on your location, further task-specific training may be necessary.
Can I get tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest or can I watch the live events?
Tickets for the Eurovision Song Contest are very popular and are only sold through the official sales channels. Unfortunately, we cannot give you tickets as a thank you for your volunteer work. We also cannot promise you that you will be able to watch the ESC on TV or live if you volunteer.

Volunteers have exclusive access to the Volunteer Lounge on the 1st floor of the Eurovision Village.
Do I need to bring anything to my assignment?
Please bring your smartphone with you. You will receive your assignment details and information for your tasks via your smartphone. It is also the easiest way to communicate with the team on site.
What if I don't feel comfortable at my place of work?
If possible, get in touch with your team leader. As part of our preparatory training, we will also provide you with emergency numbers and safe spaces where you can find advice and help for yourself and others.
